시편 23/ Psalm 23

New International Version – UK (NIVUK)
A psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
for ever.

First Snow in Korea,
On 20 Nov, first snow was fallen in Seoul. I left Seoul on 11 Nov, just about 1 week, the most beautiful & colourful autumn has gone and the freezing grey winter came. The change was quite abrupt and dramatic, phrasing in totally different scenery……
Beautiful time has to be treasured and enjoyed.
Maybe it is a good time to listen to this song again –

WOOJINSAN ROOM
This restaurant is enlisted in the 2018 Michelin Guide Seoul. Many local Koreans visit there even weekdays. The setting is causal with self service. You have to get a seat before placing order at the cashier as you have to tell the cashier you did that.
Before leaving Korea, i determined to try my luck again and went there when it was just opened in the Sat morning……..

I really appreciate the concept of renovating this flyover. I could only get there at night but it was much more beautiful than i expected. Initially, I intended to had a walk there but it was so windy and chilly that i had to withdraw this idea.

Eventually, i had to leave this beautiful place, so this was the last morning for my stay in Naejansan.
Besides shooting the foliage tunnel, i also explored some sidetracks along the road extending between the entrance and 동구리.
I discovered that the landscape changed quite a bit in just a few days, maybe it was due to the frequent strong winds. Do make sure to visit there right before the peak of the season.
Usually, i try to avoid the crowds when shooting scenery, except for this trip. I had to involve people otherwise the beauty and scale of the trees could not be expressed. It seems a bit fortunate that many ancient trees in Korea are still surviving despite the World Wars, regional battles and civil wars.

Naejansan foliages are really beautiful……Actually it would be even better when the sunlights shines on the foliages at the later of the day.

It was an amazing morning at 우화정. In the traditional TV drama with ancient times as background, there are so called ‘fairy scenes’ where beautiful fairy showing up in misty place. The production crew usually wet the dry ice so as to produce the effect. Until that morning, i learnt that such scene does possibly exist in reality. I think it was due to the warm sunbeam striking on the cold water surface…..

This map is a helpful one which accompanied me throughout the stay.
The box office is close to the Naejansan Park information Centre At the entrance, you can start walking around or take shuttle bus to the cable car station which is close to the starting points of the majority of hiking courses. For the beautiful journey of the shuttle bus, please see here.
By taking the cable car, it enables you to appreciate the foliages at a bird’s eye view, it is better to take while the queue is not long and when the sun still shines on the landscape, as part of them may be shaded by the nearby high slopes at certain time of the day.
The park is huge enough to spread out the visitors so it would not give you much noisy and crowded feeling, esp at those hiking routes. I appreciate that the park is suitable for visitors of all ages.
For the southern part, Baekyang Park information Centre 백양탐방지원센터, you have to drive there or take a taxi. As the park is so huge, i could just cover a few courses at the Naejangsan Temple 내장사 side during this trip, but it was already spectacular enough for me.

This is not only a National Park but also a Geological Park. It has the largest colonnade in the world, and the highest-density of the block stream in South Korea. There are two entrances of the park. If you intend to go to Neutjae늦재 foliage tunnel which is a beautiful place, it is better to take the entrance at Wonhyosa visitor center 원휴사 입구/ 원휴분소 . The park officials there are friendly, they would recommend and discuss the optimum route with you. Moreover, there are many restaurants serving various famous Jeollanam-do전라남도 traditional food near the entrance.
Another entrance is at the Jeungsimsa visitor center 증심사 입구. It is at the bottom of the mountain, so it would be warmer. Similar to the Bukhansan National Park, there are lots of hiking gears shops, convenience stores, restaurants etc. There are also a mini library at the bus terminal and facilities for shoe-cleaning which i appreciate much.

The weather forecast that day (3 Nov) was rainy. When i stepped out of the hotel, the sun was shining so i tried my luck, changed my mind and grasped the opportunity to go hiking. I treated it as a bonus as the rain came only when i was on the way back. Foliages in the rain facilitated scenery with different mood.
In Korea, due to the geology, the hiking shoes would be covered by something like tiny ashes, this Park provides brushes and water, some parks would provide compressed air for cleaning.
Generally, people whom i encountered in Gwangju are very nice and friendly.

Kim Daejeung Convention Centre Station @Gwangju
On my way to the 518 Liberty Park, i took the exit 5 at the Kim Daejeung Convention Centre Station, and i passed by this place for promoting and educating citizens about Human Rights. This station provides space for relevant books reading, exhibitions, interactions and thoughts expressions. There are also a list and a map showing the Heritage Sites regarding Human Right in Gwangju and highlighting Gwangju as a city inclining to human right and democracy. Actually the Kim Daejeung Convention Centre is just 8 mins on foot from this station.

At the Old City Government Office, the community was fighting for a heritage renovation project. There was a mini exhibition at the 2/F as well.
What happened at the Democracy Square everyday –https://catherineyylam.wordpress.com/2017/11/03/what-happened-at-518-everyday-in-gwangju/
This was one of the temporary exhibition at the Sky Garden 하늘마당 (which is closed to the 518 Democracy Square) where many young people like resting there. The drawings were done after the kids read relevant materials about 군함도 軍艦島 and 518 tragedy, and then expressed what they learnt.
I found that Gwangju is positioned as a city regarding democracy uprising and human rights. There are different activities, and materials via different media facilitating their next generation to learn about this history, and the responses seem encouraging.
As we have been receiving info regarding Gwangju 518 events in various sources, i am quite curious about how the people in Gwangju or Korea think about it nowadays and what they are still requesting or fighting for. That’s why I esp like reading those written feedbacks at various heritage sites.

The Forest of Wisdom is a reading and cultural space, everyone is welcomed to read the book kept in there. There are three halls in total, Hall 1 (where this main entrance is located) is opened from 10 am to 5 pm, Hall 2 is from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, while for Hall 3, it is even opened 24 hours a day! Coffee shops, convenience shops, performance spaces (http://www.pajubooksori.kr/html/sub/schedule.html), bookstores are available. There is also a guesthouse 紙之鄉, where you are much welcomed to book and stay overnight. http://www.jijihyang.com/
At Hall 1, several ancient typewriters are being exhibited. I found that the Korean keyboard is different from what we have today, looks a bit interesting……However, i think that the current version is an improved one as the left hand is mainly responsible for the consonant and the right hand is for the vowel, while those more commonly used keys are arranged at the middle row.

Though i am not fancy much about the colour tone of this bookstore, maybe it is due to quite a number of books are for children, i still appreciated the volume of books it kept.
Every cafe or gallery in the Heyri Art Village is really huge as it occupies the whole building individually.
